Gannon and Benjamin Post 2

I got to Gannon and Benjamin a day or two before New Years Eve, two years after I planned the trip. It was part of a Windgate Fellowship that I received in 2009 at the time I graduated from VCU. My reason for choosing G&B was not because I wanted to make boats but a general interest in the techniques and forms. In a lot of cases, woodworking is woodworking, whether or not it's building furniture or building a house. With boat building it is an entirely different set of skills and language involved. This is one of the aspects that I was so interested in. Another is the natural shapes that occurs in order to satisfy the functional needs. Each step of the boat making process offers a different skill and a different visual to add to my source of imagery that I pull from. Here are a few images from the shop.
